JULIAN HYDE, GENERAL MANAGER OF REEF CHECK MALAYSIA
Julian Hyde is British, but has been living overseas since 1992. He is a scientist by training, with a degree in biochemistry. He worked for several years as a management consultant, including six years in Russia managing a variety of environmental consulting programmes. He moved to Malaysia in 1999, initially managing an environmental consulting company in KL before moving to Tionman Island to pursue his dream to run a dive centre, which he did for six years. During which he became interested in Reef Check.
In 2006 he moved back to KL and was involved in a project to establish a sustainable Reef Check centre in Malaysia. Since then he has continued to raise funds for the organisation and to develop its programmes which now include a national annual coral reef survey programme, education programmes for schools, community-based projects and reef rehabilitation programmes.
2019 marks 12 years of operations for RCM. During that time the annual survey programme has grown to cover over 200 sites, and RCM has established close relationships with relevant government agencies involved in reef management. In particular, it is helping Marine Park management agencies to change their approach to managing marine protected areas, with more emphasis on community engagement and participation.
MOHD SAIFUL ANUAR BIN ZAINAL, CEO OF E-IDAMAN SDN BHD
Ir Mohd Saiful Anuar is the Chief Executive Officer of E-Idaman Sdn Bhd since 2007. He manages the companies profitability and oversees the operation of Solid Waste Management, Public Cleansing and Landfills in the Northern Region of Malaysia. Prior to being the CEO of E-Idaman, Ir. Mohd Saiful was the CEO of PJBumi Waste Management Sdn Bhd. From 2005 to 2007. He also holds a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University in Peoria Illinois, USA.
E-Idaman was incorporated as the JV company between Metacorp Berhad and Cenviro to undertake the waste management business for the Northern states of Malaysia namely Kedah and Perlis. Subsequently E-Idaman holds the solid waste and public cleansing concession award from the Government of Malaysia and the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation respectively.
NICOLAS DROSS, ECONOMIC & TRADE COUNSELLOR, EUROPEAN UNION DELEGATION TO MALAYSIA
Nicolas DROSS is the Economic and Trade Counsellor at the European Union Delegation to Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, where he heads up the economic and trade dimension of the Malaysia-EU relations. He represents the EU on a diplomatic level on issues related to economic cooperation, market access, environment, and the Malaysia-EU Free Trade Agreement negotiations.
He holds several Masters degrees in engineering from Supélec, in Public Administration from the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po), Economics from Paris XI University and a Master of Arts in European Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges. Nicolas Dross has 14 years’ experience with the European Commission where he has contributed to key trade issues related to international affairs. These include the participation in the negotiations of bilateral trade agreements such as the EU-Korea FTA, the EU-Japan FTA or the TTIP and the representation of the EU at international organisations such as the Regional Fisheries Management Organisations or the OECD.
JULIANA ADAM, CEO & PARTNER, BIJI-BIJI INITIATIVE MALAYSIA
Juliana Adam is the CEO and one of the partners of Biji-biji Initiative, Malaysia’s pioneer impact-driven enterprises focused on championing sustainable living and practices. Having a strong passion for sustainability and the creative field, Juliana has also co-founded Me.reka, an alternative education space nurturing creativity and sustainability in STEAM-centric education; Taboo Enterprise -an events-based enterprise focusing on sustainable event management; and Tick Talk, a sustainability consultancy and impact reporting company.
Being a graduate with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, mixed with local and international experiences in education, sustainability and creative industries, Juliana is driven to reach out to the masses in building impact and awareness towards sustainable living. She strongly believes in making change happen through understanding the links between human behaviour, culture and sustainability.”
KHAIRUL ANWAR, HEAD OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS COMMUNICATION & SUSTAINABILITY, COCA-COLA FAR EAST LIMITED
Khairul is the country lead for Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability (PACS) for Coca-Cola in Malaysia where he is responsible for government relations, public affairs, internal and external communications and sustainability. He also leads the Coca-Cola’s World Without Waste goals in Malaysia by driving recycling education campaigns with NGO partners and leading the dialogue with stakeholders to address solutions on packaging waste.
At industry level, he is the Co-Chair for Packaging Recovery Working Group , Vice Chair for Public Affairs Committee & Communications Working Group committee member under Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers – Malaysian Food Manufacturer Group (FMM MAFMAG) and member for AMCHAM Government Relations Committee.
WEE CHING YUN, CHAIRMAN OF SUSTAINABILITY SUB-COMMITTEE, MALAYSIAN PLASTICS MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION (MPMA)
Wee Ching Yun currently holds the position of Managing Director of Chong Wah Group. She has been actively involved in the daily operations and expansion programs of her family business since January 1988. She graduated from York University, Canada in 1987 with a B.A in Economics.
She’s also an active member of the Malaysian Plastic Manufacturers Association (MPMA). Where she is part of the Central and EXCO Committee. She is also a member of the Standards Writing Committee and the Chairman of the Sustainability Sub-Committee in MPMA.
